Smart Meters Have Arrived!

Smart Meters Have Arrived!

Smart meter rollout has started

During November 2026 we will begin the process of replacing existing meters with new Revelo™ smart meters, working across Cayman Brac and Little Cayman in stages.

Meet your new smart meter

The new meter is the Landis+Gyr Revelo™, which can securely send and receive data, giving us up-to-date meter readings and information.

Just like your current meter, the smart meter measures your electricity use in kWh. It has a digital display and fits into your existing meter socket, so there’s no change to the electrical setup inside your home.

The meter uses its own secure, low-power radio network designed for utility services, so we do not need to connect it to your Wi-Fi.

The data is encrypted and contains only your electricity readings and information about the meter’s status. It does not contain your personal information.

Immediate benefits

Once your new smart meter is installed, we'll have better information to help us manage your electricity service, including:

  • Automatic meter readings: Your electricity readings will be sent automatically to Island Energy, reducing the need for monthly visits to your home to read the meter.
  • Faster response to power outages: Outages are detected automatically and narrowed down to the affected line or transformer, so after a storm or a fault we can immediately see which roads and premises have lost power and get crews to the right place sooner.
  • Early detection of problems: The meters let us spot signs of trouble before they become faults, such as overheating at a meter base, a loose connection or low voltage at the end of a line.
  • A more stable network: With load information from every part of each island we can balance supply with customer demand, helping to keep the network stable and reliable.

What happens next?

The rollout will take place area by area across Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

There is nothing you need to do at this stage.

We will announce the installation schedule on our WhatsApp channels and social media with more information about timings.

Customers with existing Pay-As-You-Go meters will also have their meters replaced as part of the programme and we’ll be in touch directly to schedule access to your home.

What happens when we change your meter?

1. On the day: Our crew will work through the areas changing meters at each property. You don't need an appointment and you don't need to be home.

2. Changing your meter: We'll record the final reading from your existing meter before removing it and installing your new smart meter.

3. A short interruption to your power: Your electricity will need to be switched off for a few minutes only while the meter is changed.

4. Your new smart meter: Connects to our network same day and begins recording your electricity use. Your next bill will show two meter readings, both your old and new meters, to cover the changeover.

5. If we can’t access your meter
If your meter is behind a locked gate or we can’t safely access it we will contact you to arrange access.

6. Checking your account details
As part of the changeover we may check your customer records are up to date and call to confirm account details.

Pay-As-You-Go customers

If you are currently a Pay-As-You-Go customer, your meter will be replaced as part of the smart meter programme. Until our new prepaid service is introduced, you’ll automatically move to monthly billing.

What happens next:

  • No change until the meter is replaced: You can continue buying and using your top-up cards
  • We’ll contact you to arrange your meter change, as we’ll need access inside your home and someone will need to be there.
  • Any remaining credit will be transferred to your account and shown as credit on your first bill.
  • After the change, you’ll move to monthly billing temporarily.
  • Pay-As-You-Go will return as an online service in a later phase, with existing customers given priority access

More to come with your smart meter

Once meter changeouts across both islands are complete, smart meters will bring a number of benefits that put you in control of your electricity use:

  • See your usage online – View your daily and hourly consumption from any device, so you can see exactly what’s driving your bill.
  • Mobile app and customer portal – Check your account, view your usage history and manage your service from your phone or computer.
  • Usage alerts – Get notified if your consumption is higher than normal, so there are no surprises when your bill arrives.
  • A modern prepaid option – A new pay-as-you-go service to replace the box-and-card system, with convenient top-up and real-time balance information.
  • Smarter ways to save – Usage insights that make it easier to spot waste, compare months and reduce your energy costs.
