Pole replacement programme

Pole replacement programme

The pole replacement program has emerged as a critical initiative for 2024 to enhance electrical resilience, focusing on replacing aged utility poles that have been in use since the 1960s. The new poles are designed to withstand higher winds and harsh weather conditions, significantly enhancing the resilience of the Sister islands' power infrastructure.

This ambitious project aims to replace 56 poles in Cayman Brac and 47 in Little Cayman by the end of the year. The program is about halfway through, showcasing steady progress. The new poles will support the main transmission and high-voltage lines, ensuring a more robust power supply during storms and other severe weather events.

The roads in Cayman Brac have recently been widened, requiring increased clearances from vehicles. The new pole replacements will also meet these requirements, ensuring safe and efficient infrastructure.

Each pole replacement can take the team up to 4-5 hours, depending on the complexity of the connection hardware. The effort not only aims to improve electrical resilience but also ensures that power remains uninterrupted, providing a significant boost to the overall infrastructure and safety of the Sister Islands.
